After seven years, Linda Evangelista has finally acknowledged Aja’s iconic Drag Race rant.
In a recent interview with etalk, the legendary fashion model revealed that she has “kept a recording of that” iconic moment, which took place in season nine of the Emmy-winning series’ Untucked counterpart.
For those who are somewhat unaware of one of franchise’s most viral moments, Aja memorably took issue with RuPaul and the panel’s praise of fellow contestant Valentina.
That week, the queens were tasked with creating an original fairytale princess, as well as a sidekick in similar vein to The Little Mermaid’s Flounder or Frozen‘s Olaf. Although Valentina didn’t win the challenge, Aja was left salty when she landed in the bottom two.
When Valentina started to recall her positive critiques in Untucked, Aja interrupted with a sardonic imitation of the judges: “You are perfect, you are beautiful, you look like Linda Evangelista. You are a model, everything about you is perfect. Did you stone those tonights? Oh, you are smiling! Valentina, your smile is beautiful.”
Following an awkward pause, in which all the queens were left stunned, Aja added: “They eat her up every single time she’s on that damn stage. You could walk up there in a fucking diaper and they’d be like, ‘Valentina, your smile is beautiful!'”
Aja’s rant immediately reached iconic status and has been referenced various times throughout the franchise – it was even immortalised as a song by Adam Joseph, with all proceeds donated to The Jeff Griffith Gay and Lesbian Youth Center in LA.
“That is heaven,” continued Evangelista, “and it’s on t-shirts! I mean, you know you’ve made it when something like that happens to you.”
The TikTok video, which has gone viral, was celebrated by fans in the comments. One said, “Her finally acknowledging it has that good particular scratch in the part of my brain that has pop culture references.”
Another wrote: “That was what put me into Drag Race. Aja just read her down and Valentina took it like a champ. True drag in its pure artform.”
A third commented: “The fact that Linda is still humbled by the depths of her contributions to pop culture, makes me love her more than I do.”
