HBO has broken their silence on whether Euphoria season three is cancelled.
Back in February 2022, the popular cable network surprised fans when it renewed the gritty teen drama for a third entry.
“Sam, Zendaya and the entire cast and crew of Euphoria have taken Season 2 to extraordinary heights, challenging narrative convention and form, while maintaining its heart,” said Francesca Orsi, EVP of HBO Programming.
“We couldn’t be more honoured to work with this gifted, wildly talented team or more excited to continue our journey with them into season 3.”
Since that fateful day, fans have been treated to small bits of exciting information about Euphoria season three.
Earlier this year, HBO and Max Content CEO Casey Bloys revealed that Levinson was busy writing the third season.
“Sam is an incredibly talented writer; he’s got a lot in store for these characters, and I’m excited,” he explained to Deadline.
In July, Orsi confirmed that the series would start production in January 2025.
“We could not be happier with our creative partnership with Sam and this incredible cast. We look forward to bringing this new season of ‘Euphoria’ to life for the fans,” she said in a statement at the time.
However, on 8 November, industry insider Jeff Sneider dashed the hopes of Euphoria fans when he shared some not-so-promising news about the series.
“Hearing Euphoria is, indeed, dead at HBO and that everyone is walking away from the show and leaving it where they left it,” he wrote on X/Twitter.
“Could always revisit down the line years later, but no 2025 shoot planned anymore. It sounds like this is it, folks…”
Of course, Sneider’s shocking post shook Euphoria fans to the core, with many flocking to social media to express their disappointment.
One person wrote: “Euphoria cancelled rumors… we’re never seeing Rue and Jules happy ending… I’m heartbroken.”
Another fan echoed similar sentiments, writing: “Trump won now Euphoria canceled HOW MUCH MORE CAN THEY TAKE AWAY FROM ME?!???”
Fortunately, all might not be lost regarding Euphoria season three.
In a statement to The Independent, an HBO representatives denied the cancellation rumours, stating: “Euphoria is going into production in 2025. Nothing has changed.”
While we’ll have to wait a bit longer for Euphoria to return to our TV screens, we do know that the new season will feature a time jump.
During an October interview with Entertainment Weekly, Zendaya confirmed that the new episodes will take place five years after the events of season two.
“I don’t actually know much about what is happening. I don’t quite know exactly what the season is going to look like, but I do know what the time jump is happening,” she revealed.
In addition to confirming the time jump, the Challengers star opened up about the importance of aging up the show’s characters.
“I know it’s important because there’s only so much school drama you can deal with –– ‘ and then she cheats on her boyfriend again!’ To me, at least, it is [exciting], and it will be fascinating to see and understand these characters outside of the context of high school,” she added.
