The late Dame Maggie Smith’s reaction to BenDeLaCreme’s Snatch Game impersonation has finally been revealed.
On 27 September, the legendary actress, who captivated the world with her performances in Downton Abbey and the Harry Potter franchise, passed away.
Smith’s sons, Chris Larkin and Toby Stephens, revealed that their mother died in the early morning while staying in a London hospital via a statement by her publicist Clair Dobbs.
“She leaves two sons and five loving grandchildren who are devastated by the loss of their extraordinary mother and grandmother,” they wrote.
Over the past week, tributes from an array of her entertainment peers – including Judi Dench, Emma Roberts, Daniel Radcliffe, and Rupert Grint –have flooded social media.
Smith was also memorialized by Drag Race star BenDeLaCreme, who iconically portrayed the former in season six’s Snatch Game challenge.
“It wasn’t until late yesterday that I got the news of Maggie Smith’s passing, and when I did, it was in the form of one million texts and DMs. To be associated with this legend (through no fault of her own) is an honor,” she wrote.
“Thank you to this incredible woman for an incredible legacy and allowing me to ride her coattails with ne’er a cease nor desist. RIP to an icon in the actual, literal, historical sense.”

Shortly after uploading her post, fans swarmed the comment section celebrating BenDeLaCreme’s impersonation and Smith’s life.
The Drag Race legend also received a supportive message from drummer Dusty Duderino, who spilt some wholesome tea about Smith and her son Toby’s reaction to the aforementioned Snatch Game performance.
“I was working with Toby Stevens, her son, a number of years ago on the set of Lost in Space,” he wrote.
“He had never seen this, and I’d never seen him laugh so hard. Next day, he came and told me that his mum absolutely loved it.”
In response, BenDeLaCreme thanked Duderino for sharing the delightful story, writing: “I’ve been asked a million times if she’s ever seen it and often wondered myself if it would earn her approval. THANK YOU for both facilitating and relaying this.”
Over the years, the beloved drag superstar and her impersonation of Smith has been hailed as one of the best performances in Snatch Game herstory.
