The first trailer for Heartstopper season three has finally landed, and honestly, we’re in absolute bits.
Premiering 3 October on Netflix, the season will follow Charlie (Joe Locke) as he tries to “tell Nick that he loves him,” while Nick (Kit Connor) “also has something important to say to Charlie”.
“As the summer holiday ends and the months race on, the friends begin to realise that the school year will come with both its joys and its challenges,” reads the official synopsis.
“As they learn more about each other and their relationships, plan social events and parties and start thinking about university choices, everyone must learn to lean on those they love when life doesn’t go to plan.”
In the powerful first trailer, Nick and Tori (Jenny Walser) navigate how to be the perfect boyfriend and sister to Charlie as he continues to come to terms with his mental health struggles, while Elle (Yasmin Finney) confides in Tao (William Gao) about her gender dysphoria.
Additionally, the teens of Truham take advantage of their sex-ed class as their sexual appetites start to… develop, and Nick finds himself unable to form a sentence as he meets Jonathan Bailey’s “really hot” author-influencer Jack Maddox. (We totally understand.)
Season three will also see the return of Corinna Brown as Tara, Kizzy Edgell as Darcy, Tobie Donovan as Isaac, Rhea Norwood as Imogen, Cormac Hyde-Corrin as Harry, Fisayo Akinade as Nathan, Chetna Pandya as Coach Singh, Bradley Riches as James and Bel Priestly as Naomi.
New cast members include Hayley Atwell as Aunt Diane, Eddie Marian as Geoff, Jensen Clayden as Oliver Spring and Darragh Hand as Michael Holden.
Creator and writer Alice Oseman previously told Tudum by Netflix that season three will “feel very different, and people will be surprised”: “This doesn’t mean that the series will stray from its core message – in fact, the first episode of season 3 is titled “Love”.”
They continued to reveal that Charlie’s mental health issues will “drive the story” in season three, and that viewers can also expect the characters to delve into more serious topics such as “sex” and “university ambitions”.
Connor also teased the season’s more mature themes in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, describing the new batch of episodes as “hotter” and “raunchier”.
