Cue the wedding bells, Thai actors Both Nattapong and Newyear Kitiwhut are officially engaged.
On 18 June, Thailand took a monumental step forward for LGBTQIA+ rights when 130 senators voted in favour of enacting marriage equality –which would make it the third territory in Asia after Nepal and Taiwan to do so.
Before it can be officially passed, Thailand’s King Maha Vajiralongkorn needs to endorse the bill. However, the process is considered a formality and is expected to be granted.
Since the news was announced, many of the country’s LGBTQIA+ citizens celebrated the groundbreaking decision on social media, including Both and Newyear, who announced their engagement.
In a magical video posted to Newyear’s TikTok account, Both is shown popping the question to the former in a room filled with rose bouquets.
After gathering his emotions, Newyear tearfully agreed, resulting in the two sharing an adorable kiss while cameras flashed in the background.
In an additional post to Instagram, the happy couple shared photos from the extremely adorable moment, which featured a closer look at Newyear’s dazzling Tiffany engagement ring.
“B: Will you marry me? Ny: I said “yes” from the first day we met,” their caption read.

Shortly after announcing the news, fans flocked to social media to shower the happy couple with congratulatory messages.
One fan on X, formerly known as Twitter, wrote: “AFTER SO MANY YEARS OF WAITING FOR THIS MOMENT, BOTH AND NEWYEAR ARE FINALLY ENGAGED. MY HEART IS SO HAPPY.”
Another user tweeted: “Both and Newyear got engaged.. congratulations to the beautiful couple.”
According to Out, Both and Newyear first started dating in 2012 after the latter commented on one of the former’s Instagram posts.

Following their fateful exchange, the pair’s romantic connection continued to grow, with the two even showcasing their electric chemistry in the hit romance drama Top Secret Together.
After 11 years of dating, Both and Newyear took their relationship to the next level when they announced their first engagement in September 2023. However, at the time, Thailand had not yet legalized same-sex marriage.
Under the country’s Equal Marriage Act, the two lovebirds and other LGBTQIA+ couples will be granted the same financial, legal and medical rights as heterosexual couples, from inheritance to adoption and decisions on healthcare.
