Ginger Johnson reveals if she’ll return for the next Drag Race winners’ season

Drag Race UK star Ginger Johnso has broken her silence on whether she would compete in a winners’ season.

Spoilers ahead.

Following nine weeks of lip-sync smackdowns, fierce runway presentations, and maxi-challenges like the iconic Snatch Game, the beloved series has crowned its season five winner in an epic grand finale.

For their last maxi challenge, the final three queens – Ginger, Tomara Thomas and Michael Marouli – wrote and recorded lyrics to a remix of RuPaul’s runway banger ‘Spotlight’, before starring in the British spin-off’s first-ever music video.

Throughout the shoot, Ginger showcased her comedic chops while Tomara and Michael served choreography. The video also featured the eliminated queens, except for Cara Melle, much to the disappointment of fans.

Following their final walk down the runway in their best ‘Grand Finale Eleganza: Dripping in Jewels’ ensembles, Ru asked Tomara to sashay away– resulting in Ginger and Michael going head to head in the final lip-sync of the season.

To the beat of Erasure’s classic ‘A Little Respect’, the two talents delivered drama, intrigue, intricate choreography and cunty star power like never before.

However in the end, Ginger came out on top and was crowned the winner of season five, with the help of season 4 winner Danny Beard.

Shortly after her incredible win, the Lanchester queen opened up to GAY TIMES about all things Drag Race UK, including the possibility of her starring in a winners’ season.

“Oh… Let us have a break, man! I need to lie down in a dark room for six months before I do anything. Unfortunately, that’s not going to happen,” she said.

“I mean, can you possibly say no? I don’t think so. Imagine what a terrifying series of people that will be? Think of the people that are in there.”

While Ginger is looking to take a break before jumping back into the Drag Race saddle, she’s expressed her excitement over the possibility of meeting other franchise winners.

“I just wanna meet all of them. It would be a lovely meet and greet for me. I could just come in on the first day, say hello to everybody, get them to sign me bra, off I go,” she added.

After years and years (and years) of rumours and anticipation as to which Hall of Fame-r would emerge supreme, the first-ever winners’ season of RuPaul’s Drag Race premiered in 2022.

The queer equivalent of Avengers: Endgame (facts), the series provided viewers around the world with some of the most iconic moments in, not just Drag Race’s herstory, but reality TV in general: Jinkx Monsoon’s gut-busting impersonation of Judy Garland; Monét X Change’s breathtaking opera; Shea Couleé fierce Janet Jackson-inspired number; Raja’s innovative runways.

After 11 weeks of pure drag chaos, Jinkx became the franchise’s first Queens of All Queens.

Drag Race UK season five is streaming now on BBC iPlayer.
