Introducing the GT Holiday Guide. We’re curating 50 (ish) gift ideas across a range of curated lists for all kinds of queer and trans people. These recommendations are not sponsored and have no affiliate link benefit. Our range of gift options and price points ensure you can give a genuinely unique gift, no matter how you celebrate.
In the words of Taylor, ‘tis the damn season. Our first installment of the GT Holiday Gift Guide is all about gender-free accessories and style.
Sometimes when we shop, we get really stuck on the binary categorization of most material realms. Don’t let gender deter you from getting something you know your bestie will love, even if the label says it’s for a “boy” or “girl.” From tchotchkes to home decor, to glamor go-tos, here are our first dozen gift ideas for gay tidings, lesbian tidings, etcetera.
1. Leather Gloves – Everyone needs a pair of stunty leather gloves. Whether you’re hitting the club, holding hands, or wrapping your knuckles around the handlebars of a moped, leather gloves are a timeless accessory. These snakeskin serves from Namilia are our current fave.
2. A Stylish Taser – Every queer deserves to feel safe when they walk home at night, but self-defense gadgets can feel intimidating and out of reach. Tasers become much more enticing when they’re pink, or purple, (or hand-stoned, if you dare). Check out the keychain-size ones at Home Security Superstore.
3. Original Queer Art – Supporting queer and trans art is true to the holiday spirit. DM your favorite LGBTQ+ artist on Instagram and ask for pricing on original or commissioned work. We sourced a chrome frame to make it special, and the sapphic colored-pencil number pictured is by the lovely Anna Degnbol.
4 & 5. Vintage Barbie or Ken – Barbies are en vogue, if you haven’t heard, and there’s no shortage of limited edition options on eBay. Does your loved one have a favorite celebrity? A beloved historical period or fashion era? There’s probably a Barbie or a Ken for that. (Though the Rosie O’Donnell Barbie here is available for under 20 beans, the coveted “Earring Magic Ken” has gone up in price since his big screen debut.)
6. Tarot Deck – Tarot comes in countless aesthetics, illustrations, and forms. If you have a mystic or spiritually curious friend, every witch knows tarot decks traditionally should be gifted. We love the Pasta Tarot which is queer-owned and illustrated.
7. Camp Ashtray – “Single and fabulous, question mark??” Find your stoner friend an ashtray customized with their favorite icon, on Etsy or elsewhere online. This Carrie-inspired one by THNK1994.
8. Astrological Day Planner – Everyone’s planning around the moon these days, which means astrological calendars and day planners run abundant. Don’t second-guess this one by everyone’s favorite justice-oriented lesbian astrologer Chani Nicholas. which also supports survivors of intimate partner violence.
9. Their New Favorite Fragrance – Good perfume scent profiles should be gender-free, period. Our current pick comes in this limited edition box set partnering with the queer illustrator Louis Barthelemy on some fierce holiday packaging.
10. Face & Body Gems – Gifting on a budget? Anywhere online, you can buy face gems, pearls, and stickers (Lisa Frank, anyone?) to add to your fashion friend’s kitschy glam arsenal.
11 & 12. Chunky Necklace or Earrings – Big, silver jewelry is IN for 2024. When it comes to earrings, partake in the queer tradition of keeping one for yourself and gifting one to your bestie. Our go-to for all things silver (or gold if you vibe) is at Laura Lombardi, like the two-tone Stanza necklace or these Amorina earrings (which come in either metal).
