The Marvels: Disney reportedly cut a scene confirming Captain Marvel and Valkyrie’s romance

Disney reportedly cut Captain Marvel and Valkyrie’s romance from The Marvels.

Spoilers ahead

Over the last few years, Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) has been hailed as a “queer icon” after the release of her 2019 self-titled solo adventure, which featured subtle queer undertones between her character and her best friend, Marie Lambeau, (Lashana Lynch).

In addition to Larson’s character, Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie has also been embraced by queer viewers after her bisexuality was confirmed in a cut scene in Thor: Ragnarok.

Since their introduction into the MCU, fans have shipped the two mighty heroes as a couple.

Larson and Thompson have also supported the idea, with the former tweeting a fan sketch of the characters alongside the caption, “We cute”, to which Thompson responded: “WHAT. We so cute.”

Thompson later said:” I just love the idea of more women Marvel characters getting to intersect. I just think it’s so cool and it’s time and why not?”

With the demand at an all-time high, fans were excited to find out that the recently released Captain Marvel sequel, The Marvels, included a cameo from the New Asgard leader.

In her brief appearance, Valkyrie delivers an inspirational speech to Carol before agreeing to take in displaced Skrulls from Tarnax.

While the scene included the two characters sharing a kiss on the cheek, it almost featured more queer elements, including the confirmation of their off-screen romantic relationship, allegedly.

In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), user CanWeGetSomeToast claimed, “Captain Marvel and Valkyrie were explicitly together in the past (cut quote: “we work better as friends”) but Disney are cowards.”

While CanWeGetSomeToast refrained from listing their sources, the alleged tea caused an uproar with Captain Marvel and Valkyrie fans.

One fan on X wrote: “VALKYRIE AND CAROL ARE STILL TOGETHER TO ME IDC, LET THEM KISS.”

Another fan posted: “COWARDS GIVE US CAROL AND VALKRYIE. Granted the kiss on the cheek is still in the movie BUT THEY CUT MORE OF THEM AND THATS A CRIME.”

As of this writing, Disney and Marvel have neither confirmed nor denied the alleged cut.

Directed by the acclaimed Nia DaCosta, The Marvels picks up after the events of 2019’s Captian Marvel and the Ms Marvel TV series, the film sees the return of Carol Danvers/Captian Marvel (Brie Larson) as she embarks on another world-saving adventure with the help of Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan/Ms Marvel (Iman Vellani).

The synopsis reads: “When [Carol Danvers] duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan, Kamala Khan aka Ms Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, no S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as The Marvels.”
