Red, White & Royal Blue author opens up about a potential sequel

The author of Red, White & Royal Blue has opened up about making a potential sequel.

Back in August, LGBTQIA+ movie enthusiasts were finally treated to the highly anticipated romantic comedy.

Based on Casey McQuiston’s acclaimed novel of the same name, Prime Video feature follows the passionate enemies-to-lovers romance between Alex (Zakhar Perez), the son of America’s first female president (Uma Thurman), and Henry (Nicholas Galitzine), a British prince.

Upon its release, the film received universal acclaim for its faithfulness to the source material and the electric chemistry between Zakhar Perez and Galitzine.

With the film’s popularity showing no signs of slowing down, fans have been eager for news regarding a sequel in either book or film format.

While nothing official has been greenlit, McQuiston recently shared their thoughts on the idea during an interview with Out.

“I mean, like, of course, I would love to. I don’t think I’m allowed to say anything more than that at this point,” they teased.

This isn’t the first time McQuiston has hinted at future Red, White & Royal Blue content.

Back in August, the I Kissed Shara Wheeler author took to Threads to share new details about Alex Claremont-Diaz and Prince Henry following the events of Red, White & Royal Blue (the book) – including their favourite Drag Race queens and their queer awakenings.

However, fans went into a frenzy when they refused to answer if Alex proposed to Henry or vice versa.

“Cannot answer this one just in case it ends up being a spoiler one day,” responded McQuiston, indicating that they have not yet finished telling their story and that details of their wedding will soon be told, whether it’s on-screen or on the page.

In addition to McQuiston, Red, White & Royal Blue director Matthew Lopez also hinted at a possible continuation of Alex and Henry’s story.

“Here’s what I’ll say: if people like the movie, if it’s successful and people want more, who am I to deny them?” he revealed in an exclusive interview with GAY TIMES.

However, he clarified: “Not confirmed! That’s not confirmation. Look, any movie that ever simply gets made is a miracle. It’s greedy for a filmmaker two weeks before his movie comes out to start talking about a sequel.

“People loved the book so much they wanted the movie, right? I should be so lucky that people love the movie so much that they want another one.”
