Dreams may glitter, but they also come true. Girls Aloud are back and have announced a new arena tour for May and June 2024 (screaming and crying simultaneously).
Much speculation has swirled around the reunion and last night the rumours were confirmed after a four day tantalising tease across social media.
In an exclusive with British Vogue the most successful girl band of the noughties are reuniting, with Cheryl, Kimberley Walsh, Nadine Coyle and Nicola Roberts revealing “it’s gonna be the nostalgia of your life.”
The girl band were formed on Pop Stars: The Rivals in 2002. During their acclaimed career the pop princesses amassed more than five million album sales, a record-breaking 20 consecutive top 10 singles, four number ones and a Brit Award.
They officially disbanded in 2013 for the members to pursue individual careers. Tragically the band lost Sarah Harding, the inhibited rockstar of the group, to breast cancer in 2021 at the age of 39.
Towards the end of her life, the girls rallied around their girl and Cheryl explained how Sarah said: “She turned to me once and said, ‘You know when I’m not here, you girls should do something.’”
Girls Aloud The Show will be a celebration of the band’s musical history and will not feature any new music. “We couldn’t,” Cheryl said, “because Sarah wouldn’t be included in that newness. This is about celebrating the 20 years we’ve all had. So the tour has got to be inclusive of Sarah because she’s such a massive part of our make-up.”
Fans were jubilant with the news with one tweeting: “sorry how the fuck is it 2023 and I’m listening to the radio waiting for Girls Aloud to come on, this must be a simulation.”
Another added: “Seeing Girls Aloud live will change my life and I’m being absolutely serious about that.”
This was followed by a fan from Cheryl’s hometown stating: “I just know seeing Girls Aloud in Newcastle will be a religious experience.”
