The Umbrella Academy star Elliot Page has opened up about writing his upcoming memoir Pageboy.
Back in February 2022, the 36-year-old talent revealed that he was working book detailing his rise to fame and eye-opening journey as a trans man.
“The memoir will delve into Page’s relationship with his body, his experiences as one of the most famous trans people in the world, and will cover mental health, assault, love, relationships, sex, and the cesspool that Hollywood can be,” the book synopsis reads (per The Associated Press).
With the highly anticipated memoir set for release on 6 June, Page opened up to People about writing the deeply personal piece of work.
“I didn’t think I could write a book. Books, particularly memoirs, have really shifted my life, offered me inspiration, comfort, been humbling, all of those things,” he explained.
“And I think this period of not just hate, about our healthcare, it felt like the right time. Trans and queer stories are so often picked apart, or worse, universalized.
“So… I just sat down, and it came out, and I just didn’t stop. I just kept writing.”
While Page admitted that his experience is different from many within the trans community, he also expressed the importance of having more trans-led stories in the mainstream.

“I think it’s crucial, I think we need to feel represented and see ourselves, you know, that’s not something I had like as a kid. The reality is, trans people disproportionately are unemployed, disproportionately experience homelessness,” he said.
“Trans women of color are being murdered. People are losing their healthcare or couldn’t access it.”
Towards the end of his interview, Page said he was grateful for being alive after dealing with an array of ups and downs.
“There’s obviously been very difficult moments. I do feel like I kind of barely made it in many ways. But today, I’m just me and grateful to be here and alive and taking one step at a time,” he added.
In addition to his interview, Page shared the emotional first chapter of Pageboy with the aforementioned publication.
Throughout the brief sneak peek, the X-Men: Days of Future’s Past star reflected on his attraction to a person named Paula, backpacking in Eastern Europe with his childhood friend and going to his first gay club.
Towards the end of the chapter, which ended on a cliffhanger, Page revealed that his burgeoning love for Paula and newfound exploration of his LGBTQ+ identity occurred right before the premiere of his critically acclaimed film Juno.
Paperboy will be released on 6 June.
